This article will show you how to set up an account for your iiNet email address in Mac Mail 9, the default email program for OSX El Capitan.
- If you have another email account, send a test email to the email address you're setting up. Alternatively, ask a friend or family member to send you an email.
- Open Mail with the icon in the dock at the bottom of the screen, or by searching for “Mail” in the Spotlight search bar in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
- Click Mail in the top menu bar, and then select Accounts.
- In the right-hand column, scroll down and click Add Other Account....
- Select Mail account.
- Enter the following details before clicking Sign In:Name: Your name as you’d like it to appear on the emails that you send.
Email address: Your iiNet email address
Password: Your iiNet email address password - Mail will attempt to automatically discover the settings for your email address. If any kind of error message pops up, click Continue to configure your account manually.
- Enter the following settings before clicking Sign In. If your email address doesn't end in '@iinet.net.au', please see iiNet Group Email Settings.Email address: Your iiNet email address
User name: Your iiNet email address without the '@iinet.net.au' domain (this can typically be left as the default 'Automatic')
Password: Your iiNet email address password
Account Type: IMAP (recommended) or POP
Incoming Mail Server: mail.iinet.net.au
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.iinet.net.au - Select the apps you want to use with your iiNet email account - naturally, you should always tick Mail before clicking Done.
- Close the Accounts window to finish. If your test email arrives in your inbox and you can also successfuly send mail, you know your email account is up and running!
- If you have any trouble, you may need to check your port settings. Click Mail in the top menu bar and then select Preferences.
- In the popup window, click the Accounts tab and select your email address from the left-hand column. First of all, make sure Enable this account is ticked. You may also wish to check that all your other details were entered correctly when you set up the mailbox.
- Next, click the Advanced tab. On this page, make sure the port settings are entered as the following:
Port: 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP)
Use SSL: Ticked
Authentication: Password
If these settings don't work for you, try port 143 (IMAP, Use SSL not ticked) or port 125 (POP, Use SSL not ticked) instead. - Close the Preferences window and check your inbox again. - In Mac Mail, go to the Mail menu and click on Preferences.
- Click the Accounts icon in the Mail Preferences window.
- Click + to create a new account.
- Select POP from the drop down menu.
- Enter your email information:
User Infomation: Your Name: This is the name that will be displayed when sending your email Email Address: The email address people will reply to when receiving email from you Logon Infomation: User Name: With Comentum email accounts this is your email address name example: [email protected] Password: Assigned by your email provider - From the Outgoing Mail Server dropdown select Add Server.
- Enter the Outgoing Mail server information.
Server Information: Incoming Server (POP3): mail.comentum.com (for Comentum email accounts) Outgoing Server (SMTP): mail.comentum.com (for Comentum email accounts)
Note: see below for SBC and RoadRunner users - Click OK.
SBC and RoadRunner Users (or any Internet provider)
If you have Internet Access through a company such as SBC or RoadRunner, you may need to check the button
'Log on using.' Then fill in the following fields:
User Name: (Type in your email address. Example: [email protected])
Password: (Type in the password given to you by Comentum)
Outgoing Server (SMTP): Call SBC or RoadRunner for their information and enter it into the field
